Meghan Markle
Prince Harry designed the ring that he used to propose to Meghan Markle. Harry worked with jeweller Cleave and Company, choosing the central diamond from Botswana and accenting it with two diamonds from Princess Diana's collection. “The ring is obviously yellow gold because that’s her favorite and the main stone itself I sourced from Botswana,” Prince Harry said in an interview with BBC News. “The little diamonds on either side are from my mother’s jewellery collection to make sure that she’s with us on this crazy journey together.” The ring is estimated to be worth £600,000. It was noticed on her last public appearance the design of Megan's ring had changed from the plain gold band to a thinner micropave diamond set band.
Jennifer Lopez
When Jennifer Lopez got engaged to baseball star Alex Rodriguez he presented her with this stunning ring. Weighing 16 carats this Emerald cut diamond ring is estimated to be worth $1.8 million!! Rodriguez is one of the highest-paid athletes of all time, with career earnings of $575 million.
Paris Hilton
Even though this relationship didn't make it the ring is well worth a mention. Chris Zylka proposed to Paris with a gorgeous pear shaped diamond estimated to weigh 20 carats, surrounded with a halo of diamonds and diamond set split shoulders. This ring is worth an estimated $2 million and was gifted to the couple by the designer in exchange for publicity. When the couple split Paris kept the ring. Sounds like a good racket to me, get a ring for free, call off the wedding and get to keep the rock!!
Elizabeth Taylor
Elizabeth Taylor was not only known for her various marriages (eight in total!) but also for her fabulous jewellery collection. One of which being the Krupp diamond, an Asscher cut diamond, now known as the Elizabeth Taylor diamond, given to her by Richard Burton. It weighs an incredible 33.19 carats and it's widely reported she wore it almost every day. On Elizabeth Taylor’s passing, the Krupp Diamond was put up for auction by Christie’s. It sold for a massive $8,818,500!! Although, this technically wasn't her engagement ring from Richard Burton, he actually proposed to Elizabeth with a platinum-set Bulgari pendant featuring an 18.61 carat emerald surrounded by diamonds, that could be detached and worn as a brooch. Burton famously said “The only Italian word Elizabeth knows is Bulgari”.
Kate Middleton
After Prince William’s and Prince Harry’s parents, Prince Charles and Lady Diana, divorced; Diana returned her engagement ring to her ex-husband. It was stored in Kensington palace and after Diana’s tragic death, Prince Charles allowed, William and Harry, to select mementos from her possessions. Harry, picked the engagement ring, while William chose a gold Cartier watch. But when William decided to propose to Kate, the brothers exchanged their mementos. It’s said that Harry thought of Kate as a sister and that both princes wanted her to have their mother’s ring. How lovely is that! Prince William presented Kate Middleton with the 18-carat white gold ring which consists of an oval sapphire weighing 12 carats surrounded by 14 round brilliant diamonds. The ring was too big for Kate and it kept sliding around on her finger, so the Crown Jeweller, G. Collins and Sons, resized it from size I to H. That's tiny! The ring is believed to have a value of £300,000.
Pippa Middleton
This is my favourite! Pippa's now husband proposed with a large, Art Deco style diamond ring. The ring's center stone is an Asscher cut diamond that is said to be around 3.00 carats in size, and it is surrounded with an octagonal halo of smaller diamonds. It's estimated to be worth £200,000.
Princess Eugeine
Princess Eugeine's ring from Jack Brookbanks is an unusual Padparadscha Sapphire. The ring is comprised of a 2.00 carat Padparadscha Sapphire, surrounded by a diamond set halo and two 1.5 carat pear-shaped diamonds. The band is in 18ct yellow gold. Padparadscha Sapphires are one of the rarest in the world, and are known for their beautiful pink tone. This ring is estimated to be worth £70,000. Have a look at our Padparadscha ring here.
Marilyn Monroe
When Marilyn Monroe married Joe DiMaggio he gave her a Platinum eternity band with 35 baguette cut diamonds. The ring was technically her wedding band, as DiMaggio gave it to Monroe on their wedding day on January 14, 1954, but it's classic style is still so popular today. When the diamond eternity band was sold at Christie’s New York in 1999 as part of a sale containing Marilyn Monroe's personal possessions, it sold for $772,500, even though one of the baguette cut diamonds was missing.
Beyonce
Beyonces engagement ring is a beautiful 18 carat flawless Emerald cut diamond set on a split shank. The ring was designed by celeb favourite Lorraine Schwartz. Jay Z is thought to have splashed out an estimated $5 million for the ring.
Kim Kardashian West
This is Kim's second engagement ring from Kanye West the original being a 15 carat Cushion cut diamond designed by Lorraine Schwartz. The stunning ring pictured was also designed by Lorraine Schwartz and is a 20 carat Emerald cut diamond. The diamond is in the D Flawless category representing less then 2% of the worlds diamonds. It is estimated that this 20 carat ring would have cost over $5 million!
Jackie Kennedy
Jackie Kennedy's engagement ring was purchased in 1953 and stunned with it's vintage Art Deco style. It was created by French jewellery company, Van Cleef & Arpels. The ring flaunted a of a total of 2.88 carats in Diamond weight as well as 2.84 carats in Emeralds. In 1963 Jackie Kennedy had the engagement ring remodeled adding a further 2.12 carats of Marquise and Round Brilliant diamonds creating a unique ring fit for a First Lady.
Queen Elizabeth II
Her Majesty's ring features a 3.00 carat round brilliant diamond with ten further round brilliant stones set into a Platinum band. Prince Philip, even though a Greek born Prince, wasn't as wealthy as you would imagine. Due to his father leaving the family when he was young and war that saw his family flee the country, Prince Philip didn't have the funds to create a ring fit for the future Queen. His Mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg, offered to let Prince Philip use the diamonds in her tiara she was given on her wedding day. On July 10, 1947 Elizabeth and Philip announced their engagement to the world and the ring made it's public debut. Even with it's 3.00 carat central diamond it is relatively modest for a princess, possibly Philip designed it this way in consideration to the mood of Britain at the time since the country had just come out of World War II. This seems likely as their wedding was also less extravagant than most royal weddings. The then Princess Elizabeth even saved war rationing coupons to go towards the cost of her wedding gown.
These are just a few of the stunning engagement rings from the rich and famous, I could have added a lot more, there's so many to choose from! Which of the above is your favourite? Let me know in the comments or post a pic of your engagement ring!
